Position Description

 

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for a fixed term full-time College Professor role teaching in the Equine Care and Management Associate Diploma Program. This nine-month appointment will begin in August 2025 and will end in May 2026. The position is based at the Regional Equine and Agricultural Center of Huron (REACH) in the municipality of Central Huron, 140km northwest of the University’s main campus in Guelph and 160km northeast of the Ridgetown Campus.

 

Position Requirements

 

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum of three years of work experience in the equine industry. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience in the equine industry may be considered.
  • Proven ability to safely handle horses with varying backgrounds and temperaments.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to develop presentations for diploma students.
  • An ability to incorporate relevant, practical, applied experiences into teaching methods.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications.
  • Demonstrated record of diplomacy, teamwork, and time management.

 

Preference will be Given to Candidates with: 

 

  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level with a commitment to student success. 
  • A related professional designation or industry recognized certification.

 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Quality and Student Success, the College Professor will be responsible for teaching courses to students in the Equine Care and Management Associate Diploma Program. The incumbent will be responsible for the development, preparation and delivery of appropriate course materials, evaluation of student progress, and individual academic consultations with students. In addition, the College Professor may be involved in student recruitment/promotion, curricular and program development, and other pedagogical activities.

 

The assigned courses may include Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Equine Health, Introduction to Equine Nutrition, Equine Facility Management and Design, Equine Conformation and Lameness, and Equine Health and Welfare. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications.
