College Professor (Temporary Full-Time) in the Environmental Technician Associate Diploma Program

Position Description:

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for a fixed term full-time College Professor teaching in the Environmental Technician Associate Diploma Program. This position is covered by the University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA) Unit 2. This nine-month appointment will begin in August 2024 and end in May 2025. The position is based at the Ridgetown Campus, in the municipality of Chatham-Kent, 200km southwest of the University’s main campus in Guelph.

 

Position Requirements:

  • An undergraduate or master’s degree in a related field (Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Biology, Environmental Engineering, etc.) with three years of experience working in the environmental industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with applied knowledge of municipal and industrial operations, specifically with water and wastewater treatment, collection and distribution.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • OACETT (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists) Certification is considered an asset.   
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to develop presentations for diploma students.
  • Ability to incorporate relevant, practical, hands-on experience into teaching methods.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications is required.
  • Demonstrated record of diplomacy and teamwork.
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to student success.   

 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Quality and Student Success, the College Professor will be responsible for teaching courses to students in the Environmental Technician Associate Diploma Program. The incumbent will be responsible for the development, preparation and delivery of appropriate course materials, evaluation of student progress and individual academic consultations with students. In addition, the College Professor may be involved in student recruitment/promotion, curricular and program development, and other pedagogical activities. The successful candidate will be required to obtain Ontario certification in water and wastewater treatment, if not already certified.

 

The assigned courses may include Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science and Issues, Advanced Math and Water Chemistry, Math for Environmental Operators, Entry-Level Drinking Water Operations, Water Treatment and Sewage and Wastewater Treatment. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
