Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Research Manager Northern and Eastern Ontario and located at the New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station, the Agronomy Assistant assists the Agronomy Technician in planning, implementing, conducting and delivering research trials to support research programs as directed by Guelph and Ridgetown based researchers which, in turn, supports all stakeholders’ efforts in developing new knowledge in support of understanding agronomic systems in Northern Ontario.

 

The Agronomy Assistant is expected to support in field research trials (replicated small and medium plot trials as well as field scale comparisons) including a wide range of disciplines such as cultivar evaluation, soil fertility and nutrient management, integrated cropping systems, environmental impact, weed/insect/disease management with field crops, including but not limited to soybeans, wheat, corn, oats, barley, canola, forage crops, bio-economy crops and emerging crops.

 

The Agronomy Assistant will assist the Agronomy Technician with implementing and executing experiments in a timely manner with high levels of quality, accuracy and reliability with due consideration to effectiveness, cost and safety.

 

Requirements

Requirements of this position include: an undergraduate degree or diploma in agriculture or related field or the equivalent education and experience.  The incumbent should also have experience or be willing to learn to operate both field and research equipment; familiarity with Microsoft office programs; the physical strength and stamina to work in the field under various weather conditions; ability to lift 60 pounds; able and willing to work outside in a wide range of weather conditions, and the demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team.   A class G Driver’s License is required.
