General Purpose

Located at Ontario Crops Research Centre - New Liskeard (OCRC- NL), the Agronomy Technician works with the Cropping Systems Research Technician in planning, implementing, conducting and delivering research trials to support research programs as directed by Guelph and Ridgetown based researchers, with the ultimate goal of developing new knowledge to expand the understanding of agronomic systems in Northern Ontario. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Agronomy Technician will support in field research trials such as cultivar evaluation, soil fertility and nutrient management, integrated cropping systems, environmental impact and weed/insect/disease management. Crops, include soybeans, wheat, corn, oats, barley, canola, forage crops, bio-economy crops and other emerging crops. The incumbent will assist with the implementation and execution of experiments in a timely manner with high levels of quality, accuracy and reliability and due consideration to effectiveness, cost and safety.

 

Requirements  

  • An undergraduate degree in agriculture or related field along with 1.5 years of experience in agronomic field work or the equivalent education and experience. 
  • Experience operating both field and research equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office programs
  • Understanding of the calculations used for spraying and seeding
  • Physical strength and stamina to work in the field under various weather conditions
  • The ability to lift 60 pounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • A class G Driver’s License is required.
