General Purpose
The position will head the B.Sc. and BOH Program Counselling Office, whose primary responsibilities will be to advise students about program attributes and graduation requirements, course selection and specialization options, policies and procedures for changing courses and specializations, procedures for requesting academic consideration and informing them of other relevant student services. The incumbent will be the program counsellor representative on the B.Sc. Program Committee, the Admissions committee, and Academic Review sub-committee, and support the ADA office with course enrolment management and academic misconduct allegations when necessary.
The Senior Counsellor supervises the other Counsellors and the Counsellors’ Assistant, ensuring the Counselling Office is running efficiently and meeting the needs of the students effectively. The incumbent initiates and implements projects to enhance the Office’s effectiveness. In addition, this person will oversee the maintenance and updating of the Office’s website.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Counsellor is responsible for ensuring the Office is aware of organizational and Office changes, program change requirements, and other policies to maintain the effectiveness of the Office and support students effectively. The incumbent will also participate in College liaison activities for student recruitment, including overseeing the organization of representation at events. This person will review strategies and promotional material towards that end and interact with prospective students and their families as the University’s representative at on and off campus events.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in biological science or a related discipline
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Related training and experience in counselling and/or conflict resolution and/or mediation
- A strong customer service orientation
- Proven leadership and teamwork capabilities
- Excellent organizational, conceptualization and inter-personal skills
- Strong analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to prioritize, solve problems, and make effective decisions
- The ability to work under pressure with time-sensitive and competing deadlines
- The ability to work well independently and proactively
- Excellent computer skills including a high level of competence in Microsoft Office and database systems,
- Experience with the Colleague student information system and ImageNow digital filing system would be an asset
