Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Technician will support long-term specialized platforms for environmental research at the Ontario Crops Research Center - Elora, specifically the CFI/MRI funded soil lysimeters (70%) and the micrometeorological greenhouse gas monitoring station (30%).  The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of field instrumentation related to these long-term research platforms.  The research platforms are used by several faculty and graduate students and the incumbent interacts with the researchers to optimize use of the facilities and the research conducted there.  

 

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or equivalent in any of Environmental Sciences, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering or related disciplines, and one to two years of relevant experience.
  • Class G Driver's license
  • Training in sensor calibration and computer/datalogger programming
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with field work, including deployment of environmental instruments for atmospheric measurements.
  • Demonstrated experience in electronic test equipment (i.e. multimeters, power supplies, etc.); environmental equipment (i.e. lysimeters, sonic anemometers, etc.); agricultural farm equipment (i.e. tractors, mowers, etc.) will be an asset. 
  • Demonstrated organizational, oral/written communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently are required.
