General Purpose

The Department of Clinical Studies is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to assist the department faculty and staff with the mission of improving individual animal health by educating outstanding veterinarian students and advancing knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The position will be primarily assigned to participate in veterinary teaching laboratories in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Under the supervision of department Faculty (Academic Coordinator) and the Manager, Clinical Skills Learning, the key areas of responsibility will include: 

 

  • Instruction and assessment of technical skills to DVM students 

  • Resource management (including animals) for learning laboratories and research in Department of Clinical Studies 

  • Assisting in the scheduling, admission, care and discharge of companion animal (CA) patients  

  • Assisting in performing anesthesia and pain management of CA patients 

  • Providing technical support and functional guidance to veterinary students, graduate students, clinicians (faculty) and staff. 

  • Participate in all related skills activities including ordering, restocking, cleaning and maintenance. 

 

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program recognized by the Ontario Association for Veterinary Technicians.  
  • Successful completion of the Veterinary Technician Examination (VTNE) and the OAVT mandatory ethics exam. OAVT registration is required. 
  • A minimum of 2 years prior experience working as a Registered Veterinary Technician is preferred.  
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; experience performing restraint and anesthesia in companion animals
  • Proficient at asepsis surgical technique
  • Experienced in small animal dental prophylaxis and dental xray techniques as well as a desire to guide students and teach the above as needed in the program.
  • A protective rabies titre is required. 

 

The incumbent will be expected to work a 28 hour work week for the period from September 1, 2025 – April 3, 2026.

 

Employee Type: Temporary  
Hourly rate: Enter $34.95 - $39.02 per hour
