Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision, the Porter performs any combination of duties to help maintain the kitchen work area, equipment and utensils in a clean and orderly condition.  Duties include:  sweeping and mopping floors; washing walls; worktables, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, and cutting boards; removing and placing trash in designated containers; washing pots and pans by hand; washing dishes by hand or placing on conveyor to dishwashing machine; transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas; assisting in setting up in dining halls; refilling milk and soft drink dispensers; and performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Some secondary school (secondary school graduation preferred) and related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience as kitchen helper, cleaning large kitchen is desirable. 
  • The job involves frequent heavy lifting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • WHMIS training and a food handlers certificate preferred. 
  • Candidates must be willing to work a flexible shift schedule.

 

Regular annual schedule is September to April, with schedule subject to change based on operational requirements.
