General Purpose

The Mental Health Crisis and Coordination Team (MHCC) provides clinical assessment and coordinates care for students presenting in distress and those experiencing complex and acute mental health concerns.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Counselling Services, MHCC provides brief clinical intervention with students and provides short term case management support.  The MHCC works collaboratively with many on and off campus support services and supports the university community with consultation and clinical intervention for students in distress.  They assist students who are transitioning to and from hospital or other emergency and service partners.  The MHCC also assists with a daily drop-in service offered through Counselling services.

 

Further responsibilities include contributing to team development, facilitating mental health trainings, evaluation of services, and participation on broader university committees and projects.

 

Requirements

  •  Master’s level in Social Work, Counselling, or equivalent; membership in a regulated professional college required; and a minimum of three years supervised clinical experience in individual therapy, crisis and case management work. Previous post-secondary experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with drop-in counselling and single session work and focus on brief intervention.
  • 3- years crisis work experience. Experience with mental health and risk assessment and intervention.
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse and intersecting identities with an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed focus.  
  • Clinical understanding of adolescent and young adulthood development as it relates to crisis work.   
  • Experience with the breadth of problems presented by students, (anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, trauma, loss) as well as the complexity. Mental health service experiences an asset.
  • Understanding the broader mental health system, including emergency mental health services, procedures, and legislation. Clear understanding of privacy legislation.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable; able to organize and prioritize schedule to meet needs from multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills.

 

Flexible work hours, some evenings

This role is regularly performed on campus as students request in-person service.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
