General Purpose
The School of Continuing Studies at the University of Guelph delivers and supports a range of in-demand and on-trend non-degree programming to serve the current and emerging needs of our internal and external communities, industries and partners. Through our programs and services we share the expertise of the University of Guelph beyond the university’s boundaries to help build healthy, thriving and sustainable communities in the rapidly evolving context of our region. We are a revenue generating enterprise within the university.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Operations and People, the Manager, Global Learning and Innovation (GLI) provides leadership and performance oversight of the program development, operational delivery and academic rigour of program delivery for the School’s suite of globally focused programming including, but limited to English language, summer institutes, culture learning, communications, higher education teaching and higher education leadership programming specifically designed for international markets to generate profits for the School and other partners/stakeholders. The Manager, Global Learning and Innovation, is comfortable in the space where international programming, business, education technology, and innovation intersect in a rapidly evolving international higher education ecosystem.
For this suite of programming, the Manager, GLI ensures market alignment, program relevance, target market and messaging clarity, program cohesion and structure, stakeholder outreach and relationship building, and responsive customer service in the development and delivery of programs that meet the needs of international continuing studies learners and global partners. The Manager, GLI oversees the budget for the programming to recover all costs associated with program delivery as well as provide a return on investment through margin generation, and to track performance against the budget throughout the fiscal year.
Requirements
The University recognizes that no individual will have the following skills and experience in equal measure, but the qualifications below will be used to assess candidates:
- A Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., adult education, business, leadership) and at least 5 years of related business development and change management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven capabilities in growing a business unit, entrepreneurship and/or proactively identifying new revenue opportunities.
- Proven change management capabilities, navigating both self and teams through change.
- Problem-solving, decision-making, creativity and innovation.
- Passion for leadership and managing team performance.
- Demonstrated skills in financial management, budgeting and proposal writing.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering innovative international programs with higher education partners and/or international agency partners in higher education teaching and leadership.
- Identifying evolving trends in international education from a learner, institutional and development agency perspective and developing programming that reflects these trends.
- Developing, planning and managing complex international projects with higher education, agency and university partners.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly across different cultures.
- Ability to work with internal and external interest holders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience in and/or understanding of public, private and non-profit sectors.
- Experience in working with faculty, university leadership, government representatives, and executives using judgement, skill and a high degree of professionalism.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
