General Purpose

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, the Manager, Communications and Marketing, leads and oversees the strategic management of communications and marketing for the department of Student Experience. This includes leading and overseeing the creation, management, and execution of the communications and marketing strategies that optimize awareness of programming and coordination of services for the 10 units across Student Experience (Centre for International Programs, Cultural Diversity, Global Pre-arrival Support, Indigenous Student Centre, International Student Experience, Sexual and Gender Diversity, Multi-Faith Programs, Off-Campus Living and Neighbourhood Relations, Student Engagement and Leadership, Office ).
This Manager works with U of G’s communication team, departments across campus, and with the leadership team in Student Experience, to effectively strategize, coordinate, and deliver communications and marketing. This includes the assessment, analysis, trend identification for all communications and marketing, as well as maintaining knowledge of current, relevant, and trending practices.
As a member of the Student Experience leadership team, the incumbent contributes to the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the department, represents the department and/or Director on University and external committees, participates in the development and implementation of actions plans, annual budgeting, forecasting processes.
The Manager recruits, hires, trains, and supervises professional staff, cooperative education students, and part-time student staff.
Requirements
To be successful in this role the incumbent is required to have:
- An Undergraduate Degree coupled with 5 years progressive experience in communications, marketing, and leadership roles
- Proven experience with leading the development and implementation of effective communications and marketing strategies
- Experience with managing a professional team of full-time and part-time staff/students
- Proven leadership and administrative responsibility to direct teams, foster staff motivation, and manage employee performance to implement operational plans
- Proven ability to exercise a high level of judgment, diplomacy, and tact, and to respect and maintain confidentiality in sensitive and/or volatile situations
- Application of expertise in communications and marketing, including social media and digital experiences (virtual events, user journeys, conditional logic-based systems etc.), and events
- Knowledge of and experience working with diverse communities and within anti-oppressive frameworks
- Proven ability to exercise a high level of judgement, diplomacy, and tact
- An ability to collaborate and lead amongst stakeholders and partners
- Proven ability to employ strategic approaches to tracking and assessing communications and marketing activities
- Demonstration of excellent presenting and writing skills
- Financial management, including forecasting

Professional/Managerial Salary Bands
The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
