Position Description:

 

The Department of Management, Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph invites internal applications for a tenured/tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level who will become the named John F. Wood Chair in Entrepreneurship.   This position will be housed in the Department of Management and will contribute to the culture and programming of the John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise. 

 

The position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and developing courses in entrepreneurship and innovation.  The successful applicant will conduct research that builds upon their existing strong publishing record in entrepreneurship.  Responsibilities will also include assisting with academic programs in Entrepreneurship, supporting co-curricular seminars and workshops to inspire faculty and students in various aspects of entrepreneurship and innovation commercialization, mentoring students in curricular and co-curricular initiatives, supervising students in the area, and contributing to the academic responsibilities of the department, the college, and the university.  This person will be responsible for contributing to the success and visibility of the John F. Wood Centre.  

 

Applicants must have earned a doctorate in Entrepreneurship or a related field and demonstrated academic excellence.  Candidates will have a sustained record of publishing in Entrepreneurship and related areas within high-quality journals.  Preference will be given to applicants who have a track record of effective teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs and supervision of graduate students.  We are particularly interested in candidates whose research connects theory with practice and produces impact on both practice and the development of theory. We are respectful of different approaches and perspectives in meeting these objectives.  We are looking for a scholar whose academic work has made an impact. The candidate should be a team player with a proven record of building relationships with faculty, students, administration, and with our academic and professional communities.

 

The John F. Wood Centre, housed within the Lang School of Business and Economics, supports innovative and entrepreneurial-minded students at the University of Guelph. Students in all disciplines - whether at the undergraduate or graduate level, in arts, engineering, science, business, or beyond - can access experiential learning opportunities, mentorship, and venture support to help develop their ideas and skills.

 

The Department of Management comprises 34 faculty members and is responsible for three majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program: Accounting, Management, and Sports Management. The Department offers a Master of Professional Accounting, MSc in Management, Master of Project Management, and an undergraduate leadership certificate. It contributes to Lang’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to Lang’s vision of ‘business as a force for good’® and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, business policy/strategy, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, financial management, human resource management, leadership, organizational behaviour, sport management, and project management. The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Guelph’s Business School). Formed in 2006, the Lang School is one of the youngest colleges at the University of Guelph, but it delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario, with over 3,800 students currently enrolled.
