General Purpose

 

Laboratory Services Division is seeking an Instrument / Facility Service Technician to repair, preventatively maintain, and monitor both general and specialized laboratory instrumentation and computerized monitoring systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Working in an ISO accredited environment, additional responsibilities include: developing a preventative maintenance (PM) schedule and co-ordinate/perform PM procedures as per schedule; moving and/or installing laboratory equipment ensuring all utilities (water, hydro, plumbing, etc.) are linked and operational to the manufacturer standards; calibrating thermometers and monitoring systems; checking and repairing eye wash stations; maintaining laboratory repair records; coordinating fridge/freezer repairs; providing security access cards; assisting with office/lab space reorganization and instrument moves and, assisting other facility staff as required.

 

Requirements

  • Two year community college program as a Laboratory Technician or Electronics Engineering Technician combined with a minimum three (3) years’ experience working with sensitive, specialized electronics within a laboratory environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing/rebuilding non-specialized equipment
  • Trouble-shooting on a wide-range of electronic equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop alternative approaches to fixing equipment failures and adapting equipment to lab requirements within a timely, cost-effective manner
  • Working experience in a client-focused, deadline-driven high-volume environment; self-motivated and able to work collaboratively within  a team environment; excellent interpersonal, time- management and priority planning skills. 

 

This position requires frequent lifting of up to 40-60 lbs. and a diverse range of motions to perform a wide variety of preventative maintenance activities.   A valid Ontario Driver’s license is required.  Applicants will be required to provide a clean driver’s abstract.

 

Hours of work are 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day, Monday-Friday and/or Tuesday-Friday.
