Duties and Responsibilites
Reporting to the Manager, Intercollegiate, the Head Coach of the Gryphon Women’s Volleyball Program leads one of the Department’s most highly visible OUA and USPORTS programs.
The Head Coach is responsible for all phases of the planning and implementation of a USPORTS Volleyball program, including, but not limited to: Athlete Identification and Team Selection, Team and Individual Goal Setting, Practice/Competition Scheduling, Technical and Tactical Skill Development, Practice/Game Planning, Budget Management including Fundraising and Revenue Generation, Day to Day Program Administration, Annual and Quadrennial Planning, Program Evaluation, Equipment and Uniform Purchase coordination, Community Relations, Gryphon Volleyball Summer Camps and Video Analysis/Scouting all under strict compliance with OUA/USPORTS policies.
The Head Coach will oversee part time/volunteer assistant coaches and will create a culture that embraces and supports athletes, coaches and support staff in the pursuit of excellence through a program that supports the holistic needs of inter-university athletes.
The Head Coach will help recruit student-athletes that will enhance the Women’s Volleyball program and the University of Guelph as an academic institution. They will also be responsible for assisting in fostering an extensive network of Gryphon Volleyball Alumni and will provide support in maintaining their ties to the University of Guelph.

The schedule for this position requires the successful candidate to regularly work evenings and weekends on a regular and ongoing basis.
Requirements
- An Undergraduate degree
- NCCP Performance Coach (ie. Level 3 equivalent)
- Extensive (5+ years) technical and tactical experience in coaching at the high-performance level (University/College, elite club, provincial, national, professional etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of sport coaching systems and strategies with the ability to teach/coach/prepare for practice and competition at an elite level in volleyball
- Demonstrated leadership, program development and athlete development skills at a high-performance level
- A knowledge of and commitment to Safe Sport practices, Transformational Coaching, OUA/USPORTS rules and regulations and the student athlete experience
- A commitment to excellence
- Superior planning, organization, problem solving and communication skills
- Strong teamwork, team building and conflict management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An understanding and appreciation of the University’s unique environment, as well as adherence to University and Department expectations, policies, and regulations.
