General Purpose

The vision for Alumni Affairs & Development (AA&D) is to be a best practice leader in raising private support by building and sustaining deep and broad relationships that create meaningful exchange of value. The department’s mission is to increase awareness of, involvement in, and support for the University in its many endeavors by building and enhancing relationships with alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and associations that enable engagement and investment. The Engagement & Development Officer (EDO) plays a crucial role in driving the Ontario Agricultural College's (OAC) fundraising and engagement efforts. This position is responsible for strategic oversight of the OAC's extensive awards portfolio, donor discovery and stewardship, and event management. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Advancement, OAC, and the broader OAC Advancement team to achieve the department's ambitious fundraising goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stewardship: Support the Stewardship Engagement Manager with stewardship activities.
  • Award Management: Oversee the strategic management of OAC's substantial undergraduate, graduate, and Ridgetown College Diploma awards portfolios.
  • Donor Discovery: Conduct outreach activities, including phone calls and visits, to identify and engage potential donors for the planned giving campaign launched in October 2024.
  • Event Management: Plan and execute stewardship events related to the awards portfolio and other engagement initiatives.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support, including pledge reminders, cannon support, and thank you letters.

 

The Engagement & Development Officer, OAC will possess proven organization, writing, event management and communication skills to work with donors, alumni and volunteers.  Changing trends in engagement are creating a need for more dedicated resources, particularly within the founding colleges who have the most donors. Today, donors and alumni demand a personal approach that includes personal interaction and targeted communications to increase engagement and ultimately giving.

 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in related field.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in alumni affairs or fundraising is required.
  • Experience in event coordination and planning is required, including event evaluations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • End-user Database experience (query and entry).
  • Sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in program development and strategic planning.
  • Experience in managing volunteers and student employees  (recruitment, training, retention and support, recognition).
