General Purpose

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Manager, Employee Health & Wellness to lead the development and delivery of comprehensive health, wellness, disability management, and occupational health programs across campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety & Wellness, this role provides leadership for medical surveillance, accommodation and disability case management (STD, LTD, WSIB), and wellness initiatives. The Manager works closely with university leadership, Staff Relations, Faculty & Academic Staff Relations, healthcare professionals, and Public Health authorities to ensure effective, compliant, and employee‑centered service delivery.
This will include:
- Lead all occupational health, disability management, wellness, and accommodation programs for faculty and staff.
- Oversee STD, LTD, WSIB, and incidental illness case management, ensuring fair, timely, and coordinated resolution.
- Direct integrated return‑to‑work (RTW) and accommodation processes in partnership with Staff Relations, Faculty & Academic Staff Relations, managers, and the Occupational Health Physician.
- Serve as primary liaison with the LTD benefits provider and coordinate with healthcare and rehabilitation professionals.
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and employees on health, wellness, accommodation, and complex medical issues.
- Oversee development and evaluation of occupational health programs, including medical surveillance, infectious disease control, and exposure monitoring.
- Anticipate and respond to emerging occupational health trends through proactive program development.
- Act as a key contact for the Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) and support crisis and trauma response.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and best‑practice standards.
- Oversee critical surveillance programs (e.g., rabies vaccination, hearing conservation).
- Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, including three Health and Abilities Specialists, an Occupational Health Nurse, a WSIB Specialist, and a Health, Safety and Wellness Coordinator.
- Support recruitment, coaching, performance management, training, and team development.
- Lead wellness, prevention, mental health, and injury‑reduction initiatives, including training for leaders.
- Assess physical job demands and recommend injury‑mitigation strategies.
- Ensure confidential, accurate, and professional management of health‑related information and documentation.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a health‑related field and certification in Occupational Health or Disability Management.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in disability case management, accommodations, RTW coordination, medical surveillance, and ergonomics in a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of disability management principles, human rights–based accommodation requirements, and relevant legislation.
- High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive medical information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with Parklane Systems considered an asset.
Preferred Education:
- Registered Nurse with Occupational Health Certification and/or Disability Management Certification or other regulated health professional with Occupational Health Certification and/or Disability Management Certification.

Professional/Managerial Salary Bands
The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
