General Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Design in the Campus Planning, Design and Development Department, the Electrical Designer will be responsible for preparing electrical designs and specifications from concept through to finalized plans for new and renovation projects and work orders.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical designs and specifications using AutoCAD in accordance with engineering design standards, applicable codes, and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
  • Update drawings and standards & specifications for all campus electrical systems which include normal and emergency power distribution systems, fire alarm system graphics, metering systems and exterior lighting systems and control
  • Conduct construction site reviews to ensure conformance with design specifications and standards
  • Meet with stakeholders to understand requirements and identify equipment, materials and proper procedures necessary to complete the project
  • Prepare and issue tender packages and coordinate contractor bidding and selection
  • Monitor project progress through construction phases to ensure quality installations

 

Requirements

  • Completion of a two-year college degree. A three-year Electrical Engineering Technologist college program is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience ideally in building services or construction
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and related design standards
  • Understanding of a variety of high and low voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication both verbally and in writing with clients and colleagues
