General Purpose
The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics consists of 4 academic units (the Department of Economics and Finance, the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, the Department of Management, and the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies), plus the Office of Professional Programs, the Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise, and the Business Career Development Centre (BCDC) and 2 research centres (Marketing Analytics Centre and the International Research Centre for the Business of Sport). The School has approximately 96 faculty members who are actively involved in teaching and research and has lead responsibility for the Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) program. Academic units within the School teach more than 28,000 undergraduate students annually. In addition to the BComm, there are also 2 executive programs, 7 traditional graduate programs, and 3 graduate diplomas, with approximately 400 graduate students currently enrolled across all programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working as part of the Accreditation Team in the Dean’s Office of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, the Awards and Data Analyst provides consultation, data analysis, and technical expertise for Lang’s data management and awards needs. This includes supporting the planning of data reporting cycles, coordinating the School’s awards management system, and contributing to the School’s comprehensive quality assurance systems. Areas where the Awards and Data Analyst will provide analytical support, leadership and/or advice include:
- Developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, data analytics and strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality;
- Experience maintaining and developing web applications built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, hosted on Vercel or similar platforms.
- Proficiency with Supabase for PostgreSQL database management, authentication, API integration, and file storage.
- Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets;
- Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems;
- Locating and defining new process improvement opportunities;
- Designing, recommending, and implementing robust processes, systems, and policies to collect evidence for accountability measures and strategic targets in support of awards, accreditation as well as the School and University’s strategic plan.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science or other related field. Along with 1.5 years experience managing large complex data bases and in current role. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent data management, database experience, and understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodology (experience with Academ, Microsoft Office Suite, including Power BI considered an asset);
- Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
- Technical expertise regarding data models, information systems, and database design;
- Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings;
- Ability to work well with others and work effectively as part of a team.
