General Purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Classroom Technical Infrastructure in Computing and Communications Services (CCS), the Audio-Visual Electronics Programmer will be responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning advanced AV control systems across the University of Guelph. This role supports all campus spaces with AV components, including classrooms, lecture theatres, meeting rooms, boardrooms, labs, academic spaces, administrative offices, and functional areas. The programmer ensures seamless operation through Crestron programming, Biamp TesiraForte DSP configuration, QSC Q-SYS integration, Microsoft Teams Room deployment, and integration programming of cameras, digital signal processors, and traditional AV devices. Commercial AV experience is essential, and expertise in pedagogical practices is imperative to align classroom technology with teaching and learning needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Program and maintain Crestron systems at an expert level, including touch panel user interfaces, interconnects to other systems, including audio, video and ethernet-connected devices.
- Integrate control for AV devices via RS-232, Infrared, Relay, GPIO, USB, and IP protocols.
- Configure and optimize Digital signal processors, Dante-enabled devices, and audio-over-IP networks.
- Deploy and configure Microsoft Teams Rooms across academic and administrative spaces.
- Commission new AV installations, validate system performance, and produce reports.
- Provide technical support, documentation, and training to AV support technical staff and faculty members.
- Ensure all systems meet accessibility, usability, and pedagogical standards.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Educational Technology, combined with 2-3 years of commercial AV experience (2 years in direct programming and UX design), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).
- Crestron Certified Programmer (CTI-P301).
- Biamp TesiraFORTÉ certification and QSC Q-SYS certification is preferred.
- Dante Level 1/2/3 certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pedagogical practices and AV’s role in teaching and learning.
- Proficiency with AV over IP, Dante, NVX, HDBaseT, and related communication technologies.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
