General Purpose
The Associate Director, Business Analytics & Operations (AD) is a senior leader responsible for financial management, business operations, data strategy, and client service delivery within Physical Resources (PR). Reporting to the Director, Business & Service Operations, the AD acts as the Director’s primary delegate and ensures the effective oversight of PR’s accounting, procurement, stockroom & material handling, and administration of client services functions.
The role directly supervises 4 staff and indirectly oversees 9 unionized employees. The AD manages complex financial activity, including $49.5M in operating expenditures, $11.3M in recoveries, and over $70M in annual capital spending, and oversees major construction contract administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee operating budgets across 23 units ($29M), campus utilities ($20.5M), and 200+ capital projects (authorized value $380M) administration;
- Develop long-term data and systems strategies aligned with PR’s strategic framework and create analytical models to support our processes;
- Manage budget development, reporting, audit support, and compliance with university accounting policies, ensuring accurate and relevant data sets, dashboards and reports;
- Oversee PR’s independent procurement centre (stockroom) and the major construction contracts valued in the tens of millions;
- Lead large-scale data initiatives, including database design, analytics models, dashboards, and operational reporting;
- Ensure effective, client-focused service delivery through the Client Services group and campus communications;
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities across operational and financial groups and develop recommendations and reports to inform decisions;
- Support and assume the responsibilities of the Director, Business & Service Operations in their absence;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Four-year undergraduate degree in Business Administration;
- Master’s degree in Math, Statistics, Computer and Data Analytics or Information Systems is preferred;
- 9 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA designation;
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing diverse teams and complex workflows;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to anticipate change and make appropriate recommendations to the Director;
- Strong data skills and understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodology;
- Strong report writing and data reporting skills;
- High level ability in Excel and business intelligence software (ex. Tableau, PowerBi);
- The ability to operate effectively with tact, diplomacy and the highest level of confidentiality is imperative.
