Position Description:
 

The Department of Management, an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Lang) at the University of Guelph, is pleased to invite applications for an open rank (tenure-track or tenured) position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Sport Management. 

 

Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled. The Lang School provides a learning environment that encourages critical reflection, personal growth, and promotes traditional and emerging themes of management and economics. We offer a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education.

 

The successful candidate will assist in the ever-growing sport and event management program at Lang. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the sport and event management program, develop or continue an active research program with high-quality publications, pursue external research funding (particularly tri-agency or equivalent), advise and mentor graduate students, and engage in collaborative research opportunities with faculty in sport management, within the Lang School of Business and Economics, and the broader scholarly community.

 

The anticipated start date for these appointments is July 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.  The expected effort distribution is 40% teaching, 40% scholarship, and 20% service.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Sport Management or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international sport systems
  • A demonstrated record of high-quality publications and/or strong potential for producing high-quality publications

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Sport Management, with a particular focus on areas such as sport governance, sport analytics, sport sustainability/ecology, strategy, marketing and communications, and/or event management
  • A proven track record of effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience in advising and mentoring graduate students
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

 

The Department of Management has over 30 faculty members and responsibility for three majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program - Accounting, Management and Sports Management. The Department offers a Master of Professional Accounting, MSc in Management, Master of Project Management, and an undergraduate leadership certificate.  It contributes to Lang’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management.  Faculty members are committed to Lang’s vision of “being and developing leaders for a sustainable world” and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, business policy/strategy, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, financial management, human resource management, leadership, organizational behaviour, and project management.  Further information about Lang and the Department is available at www.business.uoguelph.ca/.
