General Purpose

The Assistant Manager, Ontario Student Recruitment is a strategic role responsible for shaping how the University of Guelph engages, attracts, and converts prospective undergraduate students across Ontario.

 

In this role, you will lead the development and execution of data-informed recruitment and conversion strategies that drive measurable enrolment outcomes. You will oversee and coach a team of Student Recruitment Officers, equipping them with the training, tools, and strategic direction needed to deliver high-impact recruitment experiences at scale.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Student Recruitment, you will be responsible for setting priorities, identifying key markets and opportunities, and making decisions that maximize reach, engagement, and conversion. You will bring strong expertise in recruitment and can design compelling messaging, presentations, and outreach approaches, while also enabling your team to deliver this work effectively.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and lead Ontario recruitment and conversion strategies aligned with enrolment goals
  • Analyze data to identify priority markets, schools, and outreach approaches
  • Oversee planning and coordination of recruitment activities across Ontario
  • Monitor performance and adjust strategies to improve engagement and conversion

 

Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, train, coach, and supervise Student Recruitment Officers
  • Deliver onboarding and ongoing training to ensure high-quality, consistent delivery
  • Set expectations, provide feedback, and support performance and development
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team environment

 

Recruitment Program Oversight

  • Provide strategic oversight of recruitment delivery across in-person and virtual channels
  • Develop and refine messaging, presentations, and engagement approaches
  • Ensure alignment with institutional priorities and quality standards
  • Build and maintain relationships with school communities and key partners

 

Data, Systems, and Continuous Improvement

  • Use CRM systems and reporting tools to support planning and evaluation
  • Translate data into actionable insights to improve outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes and recruitment approaches

 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a University of Guelph undergraduate degree is preferred
  • 4 years experience in recruitment, admissions, marketing, education, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing recruitment strategies, messaging, or engagement approaches
  • Experience leading, coaching, or developing staff, students, or volunteers, with a focus on performance and outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data to inform planning and decision-making
  • Experience using CRM systems (e.g., Slate or similar) to support recruitment strategy, reporting, and decision-making
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel regularly, including evenings and weekends

 

Working Conditions

  • Regular travel across Ontario and occasional travel beyond the province
  • Evening and weekend work during peak recruitment periods
  • A dynamic work environment that includes team leadership, planning, events, travel, and office-based work
  • During Student Recruitment Officer training (August annually), the Assistant Manager – Ontario Student Recruitment must be available to work on-campus daily
  • When operationally feasible outside training and peak travel periods, the incumbent may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of up to 2 days per week remote, pending management approval
