General Purpose
The University of Guelph is seeking an Assistant Manager, International Digital Marketing and Communications to lead digital engagement strategies that attract and support international undergraduate students from their first inquiry through to enrolment.
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, this role is key to achieving international enrolment and revenue goals. The Assistant Manager will develop and manage digital communications plans, lead generation efforts, drip campaigns, and web content, with the goal of increasing international inquiries and applicants. Strong writing skills, SEO knowledge, and project management abilities are essential.
This position also serves as a CRM super-user, supporting application workflows, maintaining the international admissions portal, and ensuring database tools are effective and up to date. Collaboration is central to this role, working closely with the other members of the Admission Services Marketing and Communications team, international recruitment and admission managers, vendors, and campus partners to ensure cohesive, data-informed marketing strategies.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, strategic, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team to optimize communications, manage student staff, and evaluate the performance of digital initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as Slate CRM super-user for International Recruitment and Admissions, managing day-to-day operations, data consistency and integrations with the website and portal.
- Builds and maintains landing pages and websites within the CRM; develops drip email campaigns and analyzes effectiveness.
- Coordinates outbound communication across CRM (Slate), and other systems.
- Monitors digital trends and applies insights to enhance user engagement and support international branding.
- Oversees inbound application/document integration from platforms such as the OUAC, Common App, Concourse, and Unifrog.
- Leads digital content strategy with international focus, ensuring alignment with enrolment priorities and analytics-based evaluation.
- Writes, edits, and optimizes website and direct marketing content; proofreads and ensures AODA and brand compliance.
- Collaborates with the International Recruitment and Admission team and the Assistant Manager, Digital Strategy to produce strategic, market-specific content.
- Develops CRM-driven, measurable campaigns and regular performance reports.
- Oversees social and web content production, assigns tasks to student staff, and manages project intake processes.
- Works with the Central Communications and Marketing team to track performance of paid digital campaigns (e.g., BridgeU, Carnegie Dartlett, CollegeBoard).
- Guides content creation in collaboration with internal stakeholders and student/alumni storytellers.
- Recommends improvements to digital user experience based on analytics, trends, and user journey mapping.
- Leads recruitment-focused webinars and online chats, adapting content to student and parent inquiries.
- Hires, trains, and supervises 1–2 co-op or work-study student staff when available.
- Develops CRM-specific training materials and SOPs.
- Supports university-wide recruitment events such as the Ontario Universities’ Fair and Fall and Spring Open Houses.
Requirements

- Undergraduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience managing CRM systems (Slate preferred) with a focus on digital content and campaign strategy.
- Strong understanding of content lifecycle: development, implementation, optimization, and performance analysis.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional digital projects in a higher education or complex institutional environment.
- Demonstrated skill in writing, editing, and proofreading web and email content with attention to tone, clarity, and accessibility.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and experience using analytics tools (e.g., Slate reports, Google Analytics) to drive data-informed decisions.
- Familiarity with digital media platforms and international student recruitment tools (e.g., OUAC, Common App, BridgeU, Cialfo, Unifrog).
- Experience designing and executing user journeys, automation flows, and drip campaigns within a CRM.
- Understanding of AODA compliance and accessibility standards in digital communication and design.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to work with stakeholders across departments and vendors.
- Ability to train and supervise student staff, develop learning objectives, and manage workflow in a mentorship setting.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines.
- Experience supporting direct digital marketing strategies across SEO, paid social, email, and web content.
- Familiarity with content management systems, HTML basics, and digital asset development.
- Commitment to staying current with emerging digital trends, tools, and strategies in international higher education marketing.
